Salsicca Pizza with Chilli Oil

This pizza recipe came about because I participated in an Instagram collaboration with Banhoek Chilli Oil this month. I’ve had great fun playing around with different pizza bases and toppings and I have to say, the chilli oil really adds something special on top of this salsiccia. If you’re thinking of firing up your oven for some pizza this weekend, here’s my salsiccia topping recipe.

Here’s what goes in:

1 onion, finely chopped

Crushed garlic

300g Salsiccia (Italian sausage )

1 tin Italian tomatoes

A little Worcestershire sauce

Oregano to season

Fresh basil leaves & Banhoek chilli oil

You will also need pizza bases, tomato (pizza) sauce, and grated mozzarella cheese.

How to do it:

Fry the onion and garlic until translucent and then add the sausage meat, removed from the casing. Add a little Worcestershire sauce and continue to fry until brown. Season with oregano and add the tin of tomatoes. Allow to simmer for about 20 minutes. You can also add a small amount of water to keep it saucy.

Top your pizza base with tomato sauce, grated mozzarella, followed by some salsiccia sauce and finish it off with a good glug of Banhoek chilli oil!
