Rice Krispie treats can be made to suit any theme or colour. This recipe is taken from my book “Pink Gin and Fairy Cakes”, originally for blue cookie monsters, adapted here more appropriately for Valentines Day.
My daughter pressed the mixture into a large heart shaped cookie cutter to get the shapes, but you can also cut the whole batch into squares before they set and become hard. Enjoy this no-bake treat and have a Happy Valentines Day!
Here’s what goes in:
¼ cup butter
4 cups mini marshmallows
5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Red or pink food colouring
Sprinkles for decorating
How to do it:
Place the butter and marshmallows in a heat-proof bowl and microwave on high for about
two minutes, or until the butter and marshmallows have melted. Give it a quick stir to smooth out the consistency, immediately add the Rice Krispies and stir until everything is evenly coated. Add as much food colouring as you need to achieve the desired colour. Set this aside to cool a little before making your shapes. As soon as you’ve pressed them out, scatter your sprinkles on so that they stick. Place your shapes on a piece of baking paper or lightly greased baking sheet to set. Once they’ve hardened they’re ready to serve or pack into cellophane bags or boxes as gifts!
